DTIYEP Environmental Education Internship

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This volunteer internship is located at The Living Desert in Palm Desert, CA. The Desert Tortoise Information and Youth Education Program (DTIYEP) is an outreach program designed to inform the public about the desert tortoise and its importance. The Program partners with government agencies and other non-profits to complete its tasks. The DTIYEP Environmental Education Intern will assist the Program Coordinator at outreach and school events teaching the public about the desert tortoise and learning how to execute and write grants.

A successful intern applicant must be comfortable speaking to large audiences and working independently with little supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Program Intern will be responsible for the following:
• Attending school visits.
• Organize paperwork and enter data into spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel)
• Prepare, organize, and maintain equipment for outreach events
• Develop and create activities and curriculum for use at outreach events
• Contact schools and youth organizations to inform them of opportunities
• Update and maintain Facebook, Twitter and Blog accounts
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
• Valid CA or out-of-state driver's license, and a reliable means of transportation
• At least two years of work or school experience in a related field (Education, Natural Science, Early Childhood Education, etc.) Pursuit of a degree in a related field is desirable.
• Applicant must have strong public speaking skills, be able to work independently - with and without instruction, in order to complete tasks that will contribute to the success of the program.
• Applicant is comfortable using Microsoft Office.
• Physically able to sit, stand, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs.

REQUIRED COMMITMENT:
• The DTIYEP Intern must be available to be at The Living Desert for approximately 10-20 hours per week. 
• The term of the internship will be for four months, from the start date, with the possibility of extending the internship upon successful completion of the first term.

COMPENSATION:
This is an unpaid internship, but the experiences and contact you build will be extremely beneficial. Eligible to receive college credit.

DTIYEP Graphics and Media Internship

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This volunteer internship is located at The Living Desert in Palm Desert, CA. The Desert Tortoise Information and Youth Education Program (DTIYEP) is an outreach program designed to inform the public about the desert tortoise and its importance. The Program partners with government agencies and other non-profits to complete its tasks. The DTIYEP Intern will assist the Program Coordinator in creating appropriate graphics as well as assisting in scheduling of outreach events. Attendance at outreach events is highly encouraged but not necessary.

A successful intern applicant must be comfortable using Adobe CreativeSuite and working independently with little supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Program Intern will be responsible for the following:
• Creating flyers, posters and other graphics.
• Organize paperwork and enter data into spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel)
• Prepare, organize, and maintain equipment for outreach events
• Develop and create advertising slogans for distribution at outreach events
• Contact companies and local organizations for support
• Update and maintain Facebook, Twitter and Blog accounts
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
• Valid CA or out-of-state driver's license, and a reliable means of transportation
• At least two years of work or school experience in a related field (Graphics, Media Design, Event Planning, etc.) Pursuit of a degree in a related field is desirable.
• Applicant must be able to work independently - with and without instruction, in order to complete tasks that will contribute to the success of the program.
• Applicant is comfortable using Adobe Creative Suite and other computer programs (Microsoft).
• Physically able to sit, stand, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs.
